CAVACs offer assistance without discrimination to anyone who has been the victim of a crime, to the victim's immediate family and to witnesses to a crime.
CAVACs respond rapidly to prevent a victim's situation from worsening or deteriorating.
CAVACs act on the premise that the situation in which the majority of victims find themselves is a temporary one and that effective support will help them regain a sense of control in the short- to mid-term. Victims who require long-term therapy are referred to the appropriate resources.
CAVACs recognize that the victims themselves must take charge of regaining their autonomy and consequently provide support that focuses on the victim's own resources.
CAVACs treat victims with courtesy, fairness, understanding and respect for their dignity and privacy.
